Teaching Plan For Health Promotion (Assignment #3)

Our group is gearing our health promotion on the children at the reservation. What I am specifically looking into for the kids are active games to play outside that doesn’t cost anything to play. I found a great website with some ideas that even I played as a child. http://itsallkidsplay.ca/out-and-about-kids/outside-play-ideas-kids/active-outside-kids-games/ Some of the games include tug-o-war, red light, green light, red rover, etc. I will be more than happy to teach them all how to play the games if they haven’t heard of them before. We are also trying to find donations for things such as jump ropes or footballs; anything that will help keep the kids active while having fun.

As far as nutrition is concerned we are going to have some coloring available that shows what types of food is considered healthy. I found a brochure specifically geared towards children. It gives reasons why they should eat healthy. We are also wanting to get some healthy snacks and drinks to hand out to the kids. http://www.childrenshealthfund.org/sites/default/files/Healthy-Basics-Nutrition-English-2011.pdf

That is a little brief overview of what our group is planning. We some more detailed teaching plan in the forums.

  1. Excellent! I love the brochure–you have culturally diverse children represented. I like the plan to demo activities. Also, consider how you can include nutrition/healthy diet if the opportunity arises!
